The sky finally cleared during the final round of the RICOH Women’s British Open just as Jiyai Shin snagged the season’s final major title. Players fought through inclement weather conditions all weekend with the second round being postponed until Saturday due to extreme wind and rain. But a tiring and windy 36-hole round on Sunday didn’t stop Shin from maintaining a strong lead over the 144 player field en route to her sixth LPGA career win.
Shin finished with rounds of 71-64-71-73 and a 9-stroke lead over Inbee Park, marking the largest margin of victory at the event. This win comes after Shin defeated Creamer in a two-day, 9-hole playoff match for the Kingsmill Championship title. Her second consecutive win comes with a $428,650 first place check and crosses the $1 million mark in season earnings with $1,168,932. She also earns 60 points toward the Rolex Player of the Year race, which will take her to the top-5.
