Every LPGA Tour event is allowed two sponsor’s exemptions which are used at the discretion of tournament management and corporate partners. The exemption is used for golfers not fully qualified for the event and guarantees them a playing spot in the field. Fifteen-year-old Alexis Thompson was offered the first exemption spot in May 2010.
The final two spots in the field will be determined today at a qualifying event at Pinnacle Country Club. Two additional University of Arkansas golfers will participate. Sophomore Victoria Vela and senior Corinna Rees will represent the Razorbacks in hopes of obtaining the last spots into the tournament. In June, Vela tied for sixth at the Texas Women’s Open, finishing as the top amateur at the event. Rees’ most notable amateur finish came at the Women’s Southern Amateur at Lookout Mountain Golf Club where she finished as runner-up.Tickets to the 2010 P&G NW Arkansas Championship presented by Walmart are on sale at www.nwachampionship.com or by calling (479) 715-6100.
