ShopRite Returns to the Seaview Golf Club with the 2010 ShopRite LPGA Classic
2009 presenting sponsorship raises more than $1.2 Million for Local Organizations
Keasbey, NJ, November 16, 2009 - ShopRite, in partnership with The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and Atlantic City Golf, LLC, announced today the return of the ShopRite LPGA Classic to Southern New Jersey. After a three-year absence, the Tour stop will be played from June 14 – 20, 2010 and will once again take place on the Seaview Resort's historic Donald Ross links-design Bay Course. The 54-hole official event will offer a $1.5M purse and will be televised on the Golf Channel.
With this event, ShopRite continues its partnership with the LPGA and its tradition of charitable giving. In 2009, as the presenting sponsor of the Sybase Classic presented by ShopRite, $1.2 million was donated to 35 charities in ShopRite's trading area, aiding local hospitals, food banks, educational institutions and other agencies which work to improve the quality of life in their communities. Since the 1980s, ShopRite has donated more than $22 million to charities by sponsoring LPGA events.
“ShopRite has a rich history of leveraging its signature LPGA events in support of local community organizations and 2009 was our most successful year ever,” says Joe Colalillo, chairman and CEO of Wakefern Food Corp, the marketing and distribution arm for ShopRite. “We are thrilled to be back in Atlantic City to continue our partnership with this brand new tournament and ShopRite is proud to lend our name to this worthy fundraising event.”
Originally known as the Atlantic City Classic, the tournament began in 1986 and was played at several courses near Atlantic City with the first two and last nine years played at Seaview. The tournament was officially changed to the ShopRite LPGA Classic in 1992 when Wakefern Food Corporation took over as title sponsor.
“We are thrilled to once again partner with ShopRite in order to return the LPGA Tour to its incredibly loyal fans in Southern New Jersey. The rich history of this 21-year long event is woven in the fabric of the LPGA. We look forward to continuing this tradition for many more years to come,” said LPGA Acting Commissioner Marty Evans.
The ShopRite LPGA Classic has drawn, and crowned as champions, some of the greatest names in women's professional golf including Juli Inkster, Nancy Lopez, Betsy King, and Annika Sorenstam.
“The ShopRite LPGA Classic for many years had been a favorite on the LPGA Tour thanks to all the dedicated tournament partners and volunteers that built the tournament's success year after year,” commented Tim Erensen, Principal of Atlantic City Golf, LLC and Tournament Executive Director. “Our entire team is thrilled to see the return of this tournament to Southern New Jersey and we look forward to doing our part in ensuring its success in the future,” he added.
Mike Tidwell, Director of Sales and Marketing for Seaview Resort spoke on behalf of the property saying, “the management and staff couldn't be more excited about the return of the Shoprite LPGA Classic to the historic Bay Course at Seaview. This event means so much to the Seaview family and the Galloway Community and we look forward to a long relationship with both the LPGA and Shoprite.”
