LPGA Golfer Jee Young Lee Delivers Meals On Wheels
Meal delivery to Bethlehem, PA senior set on Monday, July 6
LPGA golfer Jee Young Lee teamed with the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) in connection with their “The Next Meal” campaign to bring attention to the issue of senior hunger in America and the significant work of Meals On Wheels programs across the country. As part of her participation in the 64th U.S. Women's Open Championship to be held July 9-12 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Lee helped pack meals and delivered a meal with volunteers and representatives of Meals on Wheels of Northampton County on Monday, July 6th.
“The Meals On Wheels Association of America is pleased to have the support and commitment of this fine young golfer,” commented Enid Borden, President and CEO of the MOWAA. “Through her participation in tournaments around the country, she will help bring attention to the significant issue of senior hunger in America,” Borden continued.
In addition to delivering meals in Bethlehem, Lee will be wearing the Meals On Wheels Association of America logo during tournaments in 2009.
“While I am from South Korea, I make my living in North America. It is important for me to give back,” said Lee. The 23 year old Lee has been on the LPGA tour since 2006 and is currently ranked number 24 on the 2009 Official LPGA money list. “No one comes to my home in Orlando without me cooking something for them,” said Lee, “so when I learned that there are millions of seniors living at home who can no longer cook for themselves and who are hungry, I felt the need to do something to help.”
The meal delivery event was held on July 6 and coordinated by Meals on Wheels of Northampton. “Events like this help us remind the citizens of Northeast Pennsylvania that some of their neighbors are hungry and need assistance from local volunteers,” noted Jo Ann Nenow, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Northampton County.
