I just wanted to share with you a wonderful experience I had watching the Nabisco Kraft (Dinah Shore) Championship from Rancho Mirage, CA, over the last four days on CBS/ESPN. I always watch the tournament, because one time when I visited my snowbirding parents in Indio, my Dad, my Uncle, and myself went to the practice round the week of play.We had a great time walking around the course, watching the LPGA players walk the course in preparation for play. It was a thrill to watch them in person. Anyway, I get a smile on my face when I see the 18th hole on the final round, as we walked that path along the grandstand, over the pond bridge, and stood at the end. My Dad and Uncle have both passed on, but I look forward to that memory with a big smile on my face and say "I've been there!. I think that Pat Hurst won the tourney the year I was there.
I was watching the final round today while working out at the gym on the elipitical machine. What a thrill it was to see Brittany Linciome's reaction to her fantastic fairway shot on 18 that set up the winning putt. She was so happy - the joy on her face, her body language. Then she kept her composure to sink the putt! I was pumping my fist, yelling, just having a good time experiencing the moment, fighting back tears! Then, I waited for the trophy presentation and winner's jump in the pond.
Thank you, CBS, for bringing the sights and sounds of that moment. It was a much-needed break from all of the stressful things going on in our country right now - very positive. The LPGA players are a joy to watch.
Sincerely,
Steve Maxwell
