2010 LPGA Tour Schedule Announced

    Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Acting Commissioner Marty Evans today announced that the Tour will partner with long-time LPGA sponsor Wegmans to conduct the 2010 LPGA Championship Presented by Wegmans. It will be among 24 official money events in 10 countries on the 2010 LPGA Tour.



Ponturo, Greis, Futcher and Hall elected to Board of Directors

    Tony Ponturo, CEO of Ponturo Management Group and former top executive at Anheuser-Busch, was elected as an independent director of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Board of Directors by the membership of the LPGA Tour tonight. Ponturo and Leslie Greis, who was reelected, will serve three-year terms starting in 2010.



LPGA officially launches Outside the Ropes program

    The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) today formally launched LPGA Outside the Ropes – an outreach program embraced by LPGA Tour players to elevate their significant off-course activities. The community and charitable activities primarily are designed to benefit tournaments and title sponsors.

ShopRite Returns with the 2010 ShopRite LPGA Classic

    ShopRite, in partnership with The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and Atlantic City Golf, LLC, announced today the return of the ShopRite LPGA Classic to Southern New Jersey. After a three-year absence, the Tour stop will be played from June 14 – 20, 2010 and will once again take place on the Seaview Resort's historic Donald Ross links-design Bay Course. The 54-hole official event will offer a $1.5M purse and will be televised on the Golf Channel.

World's local bank renews HSBC Women's Champions for three years

    HSBC today announced that they will title sponsor the HSBC Women's Champions for the next three years with the 2010 tournament scheduled from the 25th to 28th of February in Singapore.

Shin earns Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year award

    The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) announced that South Korea's Jiyai Shin is the 2009 Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year. The 21-year-old is the 48th Tour member to earn Rookie of the Year honors since the award began in 1962.

LPGA Names Michael Whan as its Commissioner

    Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Board of Directors Chairman Dawn Hudson announced today that the LPGA Board has named Michael Whan the LPGA's new Commissioner. Whan, most recently President and Chief Executive Officer of Mission-Itech Hockey, has a personal and professional background in golf, including serving as Executive Vice President and General Manager (North American Region) for Taylormade-adidas Golf.

Hester, Nevatt, Reasons receive annual LPGA T&CP national awards

    The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Teaching and Club Professional (T&CP) membership has selected the following members for national recognition as a result of their achievements in 2009: Kelley Hester, University of Georgia, Athens, Ga., Coach of the Year; Linda Nevatt, The ACE Club, Lafayette Hill, Pa., Professional of the Year; and Rita Reasons, Nancy Quarcelino School of Golf, Spring Hill, Tenn., Teacher of the Year. The award winners were selected by the LPGA T&CP membership's Executive Committee from the pool of sectional award winners voted on by the members of the five regional sections: Central, Midwest, Northeast, Southeast and Western.

    Today the LPGA announced that it has extended its international television distribution arrangement with IMG Media. The multi-year extension starting in 2010 will continue the successful partnership that has led to groundbreaking agreements in women's professional golf.

Golf Approved for 2016 Olympics

    After an absence of more than a century, golf will return as an Olympic sport in 2016 along with rugby sevens following their approval by the International Olympic Committee membership during the IOC's 121st Session. They will be part of the Olympic Programme in Rio de Janeiro, which last week was selected as the host city for 2016 Games by the IOC. Golf was last an Olympic sport at the 1904 Games in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, when the United States and Canada were the only two competing countries.

LPGA State Farm Classic renews contract with title sponsor

    The LPGA State Farm Classic has renewed its contract with title sponsor, State Farm® through 2011, Executive Director Kate Peters announced today. The tournament will celebrate a milestone 35th anniversary in 2010, making it one of the longest running tournaments on the Tour. The 72-hole LPGA State Farm Classic will be held June 10-13 at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield.



Navistar LPGA Classic added to 2010 LPGA schedule

    The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and the Navistar LPGA Classic jointly announce an extension for the LPGA's annual Tour stop in Prattville, Ala. The event, which is in its third year, will be staged in 2010 at the Senator Course at the Capitol Hill location on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Prattville.

      U.S. Solheim Cup Captain Beth Daniel and European Solheim Cup Captain Alison Nicholas today announced their respective 12-player squads for the 2009 Solheim Cup during a joint press conference at the RICOH Women's British Open.     LPGA Names Evans as Acting Commissioner

      Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Board of Directors Chairman Dawn Hudson announced today that Rear Admiral Marsha J. Evans, U.S. Navy (retired) and a member of the LPGA Board of Directors, will serve as the player association's Acting Commissioner effective immediately. The move follows the resignation of Commissioner Carolyn Bivens, also announced today. The association has embarked on a search for a full-time Commissioner and made several changes within the leadership structure of the organization, including the appointment of LPGA player legend Annika Sorenstam as Advisor to the LPGA Board of Directors.

    Schedule change announced for 2009 Solheim Cup

      The 2009 Solheim Cup will feature a change in schedule, it was announced today. U.S. Captain Beth Daniel and European Captain Alison Nicholas have agreed to play fourball in the morning and foursomes in the afternoon on the first two days of competition, effectively changing the schedule from previous years when foursomes led off the day followed by fourball in the afternoon.

    Andrews named executive director of LPGA T&CP

      Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Commissioner Carolyn F. Bivens today named Leslie Andrews to the position of executive director of the LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals (T&CP). Andrews, a Class A member of the LPGA T&CP, founder of GolfingWomen, Inc. and former senior-level executive at ESPN, will assume the role on April 27.



    LPGA Corning Classic to End with 2009 tournament

      The Board of Directors of the LPGA Corning Classic announced today that the 2009 LPGA Corning Classic will be the final staging of the event that has been a part of the Corning, New York community since 1979. The challenging economic environment, resulting in a significant decline in sponsorships needed to support a successful event, were deciding factors in the board's decision.

    LPGA announces five-year broadcast rights agreement

      Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and JoongAng Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) have agreed to a five-year partnership that names J Golf the LPGA's official Korean media rights partner starting in 2010.



    LPGA Tour, GOLF CHANNEL Sign 10 Year Agreement

      GOLF CHANNEL and the LPGA Tour have agreed to a historic, 10-year partnership that will make the network the exclusive cable home of the premier women's professional golf tour beginning in 2010. The new agreement establishes the LPGA as the only stand-alone women's professional sports association in the United States to receive a rights fee agreement for domestic broadcast coverage.
